Tragedy struck as Liam Payne, the former Strip That Down singer, met a tragic end at just 31-years-old last Wednesday (October 16), after plummeting 40ft from his third-floor balcony at the upscale CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires. The devastating incident occurred shortly after he had been there to support Niall Horan at his concert.
In the wake of his untimely death, details have surfaced about the hotel’s reaction to Liam’s distressing behavior. It was disclosed that mere minutes before his fatal fall, hotel personnel had called for an ambulance, which tragically arrived seven minutes too late.
The narrative thickens with new revelations about the hotel staff, including accusations that they provided Liam with drugs soon after his arrival. Adding to the intrigue, Esteban Grassi, the hotel manager, has now confirmed that Liam’s ex-partner was also present at the hotel during the same period.
In a statement to Argentinian media, Esteban disclosed: “He was seen alone but his ex-partner was around.”
During an appearance on the Telenoche show on El Trece, when probed about whether she had her own room, he affirmed: “Yes,” and added for clarity: “One floor above, yes,” reports the Daily Star.
Esteban, who is one of three hotel employees being questioned by police in connection with Liam’s death, declined to provide additional details about which of Liam’s ex-partners had been staying in the room above him. After his girlfriend Kate Cassidy decided to return to their home in the US, Liam spent two days alone before his tragic demise.
In a TikTok video, the actress explained that while she loved South America, she “was ready to go back” home. On the day of Liam’s death, both guests and staff were alarmed by the For You singer’s erratic behavior, as he stumbled multiple times in the hotel lobby.
One guest at the resort described his behavior as “disturbing”. It was also revealed that Liam had invited two women from a local escort website to party with him hours before his death.
The women have denied any involvement in his death, claiming they left when a dispute over payment arose. The investigation into Liam’s death continues, with police seen examining the hotel’s computers in the reception area.
Lead prosecutor Andres Madrea, who met with Liam’s father Geoff on Tuesday (October 22), gave the orders and updated him on their inquiries.
In the meantime, Liam’s body is still in Argentina as they await the final results of a toxicology report from his autopsy. It’s expected that these results will take about two weeks, which means Liam won’t be returned to the UK until November.
