Benson Boone Opens Up About His Evolving Beliefs and Journey in Music

Though Benson Boone was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has chosen to explore his own spiritual path rather than adhering strictly to one religion.

In a recent Rolling Stone cover story, the Beautiful Things singer, 22, shared his perspective on faith, revealing that he pulls beliefs from various sources rather than committing to a single doctrine.

“I don’t want to be a part of one religion. I have my own opinions. Some are from this religion, some are from that religion, and some are from no religion,” Boone explained.

As a child, he often heard fellow churchgoers describe intense spiritual experiences, but he never felt the same.

“I was always confused and frustrated. I was scared to bring it up because I didn’t want to accept that I wasn’t feeling what everyone else was feeling,” he admitted.

Despite their devout faith, Boone’s parents have supported his personal journey.

“They have their own views, but they want me to figure it out on my own,” he shared. “Whatever I come to, whatever I feel is right, that’s what they want for me.”

While Boone refrains from drinking alcohol or using drugs, he has tried coffee—something discouraged in Mormonism. He attributes his decision to avoid substances to his personality, saying, “I have such an addictive personality. If I started, I’d do it so much that my health would decline, and I wouldn’t enjoy touring as much.”

Boone’s career has skyrocketed in recent years. After briefly attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, he left to pursue music, gaining early recognition on American Idol before dropping out to carve his own path.

In 2025, he released his debut album, Fireworks & Rollerblades, received a Best New Artist nomination at the Grammy Awards, and saw his hit single Beautiful Things soar to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Boone has been intentional about his journey, wanting his success to be defined by his music rather than reality TV.

“I want to be Benson Boone because I write smash hits and people love my music,” he told The Zach Sang Show in 2022.
