The Thai People’s Party, which is being courted by Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai to form the next government, said it would consider its move at a meeting on September 1.
The largest party in the lower house, with 143 seats, has emerged as a decisive voice after the Constitutional Court removed Paetongtarn Shinawatra as prime minister this weekend. Both Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai want the party’s support for their prime ministerial candidates.
The People’s Party said it would support the formation of a new government on the condition that the lower house be dissolved later this year and a referendum be held on drafting a new constitution alongside elections, the Bangkok Post reported.
