After receiving the highly anticipated call-up to Boston, Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony officially joined the major league club on Monday.

The news of his promotion quickly captured significant attention, including from former Red Sox player Kevin Millar.

“I smell greatness. This isn’t a fake No. 1 prospect,” Millar enthusiastically told MLB Network. “When you’re looking at a kid that hits balls 500 feet and he’s kind of sneaky hot. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know if there’s anything sneaky about him, but this young man is going to have a great career.”

The 21-year-old has consistently been a bright spot in the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox lineup throughout the 2025 season. In 58 games in Worcester, Anthony batted .288 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs, excelling also in the outfield.

Anthony now joins Marcelo Mayer in Boston, who is also highly regarded as a top prospect for the Red Sox. Millar had the opportunity to meet both players during spring training, and they left a strong impression on him.

“I met [Anthony] on March 1st, we do a little event at JetBlue Park,” Millar recalled. “He and Marcelo Mayer came over, and they are the sweetest guys. There is a humbleness to them.”

The talented outfielder batted fifth in the lineup on Monday for his first game against the Tampa Bay Rays. “I think when you have a team like the Red Sox right now, they need this energy,” Millar stated, underscoring the positive impact Anthony’s presence is expected to bring to the team.
