Roman Anthony’s recent hot stretch has put him among Red Sox greats.
Baseball’s top prospect is 17-for-44 with six extra-base hits in his last 10 games, per Red Sox stats expert J.P. Long. At 21 years and 56 days old, he joined four other players who had at least 17 hits in a 10-game span.
Here are the others:
- Tony Conigliaro (1964)
- Ted Williams (1939)
- Bobby Doerr (1938)
- Tris Speaker (1909)
Anthony received his long-awaited call-up to the majors on June 9. After some struggles to begin his MLB career, the outfielder began to find a groove and has settled in at the plate nicely.
He went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI — including his first Fenway Park home run that traveled 418 feet.
“Super special player,” Alex Bregman said of Anthony after Monday’s win over the Colorado Rockets. “I think he’s going to be a superstar in this league for a long time. He’s fun to watch. And it’s been awesome to watch him go about his business.
“He’s the same guy every day when he shows up to the ballpark, whether he’s 0-for-4 or 4-for-4,” he continued. “The maturity that he has at his age, it’s special, and it’s part of the reason why he’s so good.”
