In 2018, he decisively stopped Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa before facing YouTuber Logan Paul and former boxer Don Moore in non-scoring bouts. The boxing legend then defeated another Japanese opponent, Mikuru Asakura, and later triumphed over Deji Olatunji in Dubai. Additionally, he fought former MMA fighter Aaron Chalmers and engaged in a chaotic encounter with John Gotti III, which ended in a mass brawl.
Now, at 47 years old, Mayweather is set to don the gloves once more for an exhibition rematch with one of his former professional opponents. According to Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN Mexico, Mayweather will face off against old rival Victor Ortiz on August 24 in Mexico.
The Mayweather vs. Ortiz 2 bout is scheduled to take place at The Plaza de Toros Mexico, the world’s largest bullring, with a capacity of 41,262 spectators. This rematch revisits their controversial 2011 fight, where Mayweather defended his WBC welterweight title.
In their first encounter, Mayweather stopped Ortiz in the fourth round. The match ended contentiously after Ortiz headbutted Mayweather, prompting referee Joe Cortez to deduct a point from Ortiz. Following a timeout to address the foul, Ortiz attempted to apologize and embrace Mayweather. However, Mayweather seized the moment, delivering a brutal combination that knocked Ortiz out.
