Paul Mescal’s mother, Dearbhla, shared a heartfelt story revealing the actor had invited her cancer doctor to the ‘Gladiator II’ premiere as a special thank you. Dearbhla, a retired garda who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2022, told Miriam O’Callaghan on RTE Radio 1’s ‘Sunday with Miriam’ how touched she was that Paul included her doctor at the Irish premiere last Thursday to express his gratitude for taking care of his mum during her battle with cancer.
“Paul actually invited my doctor to the premiere, so that was so lovely, it was so lovely to see him out of context” Dearbhla expressed. She joyfully mentioned her cancer is in remission, saying, “My body has accepted the treatment and is continuing to accept the treatment.”
She also spoke of the good fortune she and her husband Paul Sr feel, being in good health and retired in their 50s, “The two of us are very lucky, we’re retired and we’re in good health and that’s kind of unusual in your 50s, so I’m feeling very lucky and feeling very blessed.”

She added how grateful she is for the wellbeing of her family: “My three children are well and I don’t think any parent can ask for more than that, to be honest.”
Attending the premiere was an incredibly moving experience for Dearbhla, as she witnessed the overwhelming support for her son, “It was actually quite incredible and I heard Paul talking about being overwhelmed but in a good way.”, reports the Irish Mirror.
The proud mother recalled the sensation of absorbing the powerful moment, “Sometimes things are just so huge for you that you just have to soak it all in, and we really, really did. To hear your child’s name being shouted and the fabulous music of The Gladiator behind it was pretty awe inspiring.”
She continued: “I got very emotional, I have to say and he did as well as. It was one of those things where you’re sharing this big moment, kind of like a wedding, but there’s loads of cameras! “.
