It seems The Game isn’t mincing words when it comes to his views on the current rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Known for his own fair share of rap beefs, the Compton rapper didn’t hold back in his response to a tweet from The Joe Budden Podcast co-host Officially Ice.
Officially Ice expressed a desire to see someone go at The Game in a diss record to showcase what a proper diss looks like. The Game’s response was characteristic of his confidence, stating that no rappers challenge him because his level of disrespect knows no bounds and because he can truly “rap rap.” He also critiqued the current state of the rap game, lamenting that fans are unable to objectively pick a winner and tend to side with whichever artist is deemed safe for the culture.
Taking aim at J. Cole for his onstage apology to Kendrick Lamar at the 2024 Dreamville Festival, The Game blamed him for contributing to the perceived softening of the rap game, likening it to “Kool-Aid with no sugar.” His frustration spilled over onto Instagram Stories, questioning the softness of both modern rap artists and their fans.
While The Game’s comments resonated with some fans, others found fault with the variables at play in the current rap landscape. The emergence of AI-generated songs, coupled with the expectation for instant diss tracks and J. Cole’s controversial apology, have soured many on the idea of rap beef altogether.
Interestingly, The Game’s stance on the Drake and Kendrick feud differs from his previous diplomatic approach. In a 2022 interview with HipHopDX, he expressed admiration for both artists and opted to be a fan rather than picking sides in a potential battle.
Throughout his career, The Game has been no stranger to rap beefs, having clashed with a multitude of artists including 50 Cent, Eminem, Jay-Z, Joe Budden, and Young Thug, among others. His willingness to engage in verbal sparring matches has solidified his status as a formidable force in the rap world.
